RULES
League Rules:
1. The game consists of two 25-minute periods (approximately).
2. Game clock is set for 50 minutes. A 3-minute warm-up will be provided at the start of the game (warm-up time deducted from the first period).
3. Icing will only be called for the last 5 minutes of the game. If a team is winning within the last 5 minutes of the game, and ices the puck more than once, each subsequent icing call will result in a penalty SHOT being awarded to the opposing team.
**NEW** When a team Ices the puck, the opposing team will have to touch the puck first to continue game play. **-this prevents faster skaters from dumping the puck long range and then catching up to it to regain possession.
4. Line changes can be done on the fly and can be done on whistle as long as the change can be done in a timely manner. A delay of game penalty may be called at the referee's discretion if a change is holding up the game.
5. Body checking/contact is not permitted, and players will be given penalties at the referee’s discretion. Think of it as Basketball, NO CONTACT. Give players some room to play hockey, do not hold sticks, do not slash, do not lean your weight on weaker players, do not push players into the boards, Be respectful to all. Not all contact is equal however, in hockey it is expected that there is some degree of contact, but it doesn’t have to be aggressive or damaging to others. This is where the refs will call penalties at their discretion and will call them as often as needed to get a point across.
6. ***NEW*** Shots where a player raises their stick above the Hips to clear, pass, or shoot on net, are not permitted and will be called as a minor penalty.
7. **NEW **Any high-stick (hitting or attempting to hit a puck with hockey stick that makes Contact with another player above shoulder-hight whether or not the puck is touched), will be called as a minor penalty. Any High stick that makes contact with the puck at anytime above shoulder-hight will aslos be a minor penalty. If swatting for a puck but no contact is made and no one was hit with the stick, there shall be no penalty called. This helps keep the game keep going smoothly.
8. There will be zero tolerance to any kind of Discrimination and Players are to always conduct themselves in a respectful and professional manner. A high level of sportsmanship is expected. Any player deemed to not adhere to sportsmanlike or respectful conduct, as per referee may given a penalty or **NEW**- ejected from the game/league.
9. All players must wear full equipment, full or partial facial protection is highly recommended.
10. Players should always have both a light and dark colored jersey available in case of both teams having similar colored jerseys.
11. Minor Penalties are 2 minutes continuous running time, Penalties will be given at Referees discretion. Line changes must be done on the fly during a penalty kill.
12. Major Penalties can be called at the referee’s decision for any infraction considered to be serious and an attempt to harm or hurt another player or a complete disregard for the league rules and officials. The player will be required to leave the game immediately. DO NOT attempt to punch, push, instigate a fight, etc.
13. All referee's decisions are final.
14. All Players MUST have a player number on their Jersey that matches their registered player number.
15. Teams must not have more than 15 skaters and 1 goalie registered on their team for the season.
16. All Spares MUST register through the website to be able to participate in this league as it is an insurance requirement.
17. Players between the ages of 16 and 18 can be a spare player but MUST have a parent that plays for the team that the minor is sparing for.
18. By registering and playing in this league, you automatically agree to the player waiver.
League Suspensions:
1. Player Suspensions from the league will occur for the following reasons
a. 4 or more minor penalties in a single game
b. All major penalties
2. Suspensions for minor penalties will begin the next scheduled game and will be as follows:
a. First Offence – 1 Game
b. Second Offence – 3 Games
c. Third Offence – 5 Games
d. Fourth Offence – Suspended from the remainder of the season and re-entry into the league will be at the discretion of the league owner.
3. Suspensions for all major penalties will result in the player being required to exit the remainder of the current game and:
a. First Offence – the next 2 scheduled games
b. Second Offence – the next 5 scheduled games
c. Third Offence – Suspended for the remainder of the season and re-entry to the league will be at the discretion of the league owner.
4. Fighting is not tolerated. Fighting or deliberate intent to injure is subject to permanent suspension from the league. If an individual shows such aggression and intent to injure another player, a Ref and League Owner, have the authority to Expel this player from the game and the rest of the season without a refund. Depending on the circumstance players may be subject to a building BAN. The Point is we all work in the morning, and we all are playing for the love of hockey, not the Stanely Cup.
5. Refunds will not be issued to any player suspended from the league for any games or the remainder of the season.
6. All league suspensions are final
BMO Centre Rules:
1. No one is allowed on the ice until the Zamboni is off the ice.
2. The BMO Centre is a fully licensed facility, so it is illegal to bring alcoholic beverages of any kind onto the premises. Fines may be levied to anyone who fails to comply. Respect the facility!!
